Publisher of Oriental News Nigeria Online, Mrs. Yemisi Izuora and President, Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, Maureen Chigbo have called for the adoption of gas as a transition fuel and  for household uses. They spoke in separate interviews during  Oriental News Nigeria 2025 conference in Lagos with the “Integrating Nigeria’s gas potential into strategic energy transition initiatives,” as theme.

Izuora, who was the convener of the summit, explained that the topic was  meticulously chosen after critical analysis and her organisation supports the energy transition initiative of the federal government.  On account of this, the organisation brought stakeholders and experts to  discuss the transition initiative at the summit.

She emphasized that the focus in the transition is gas, adding that gas plays a key role in powering the electricity sector and in transportation through CNG, combustion, even at home, with the use of  Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).

She said: “So we try to promote this initiative to better the economy. To promote gas usage, the governments should give license to more gas producers to bring down the price of gas. Governments should educate people more on the importance of using gas.” She said gas use should be for all and sundry and government and stakeholders should integrate rural areas and make the product available. However, she said, “If you go to some rural areas, gas is very, very expensive. Some people do not even have it in the rural areas.”

President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, Maureen Chibu, called on relevant authorities and stakeholders to speed up the move towards the transition to energy. She noted that women will be the most impacted by clean energy, and cleared that it is important to expand the usage of clean energy.

She said: “If you look at the numbers, about 2.3 billion people worldwide are affected by unclean energy.  And on this number, you have more women and children suffering. They are the most vulnerable.  And we talked earlier on when you were, earlier on the speakers, earlier on, we talked about multitasking of women.  And these women are impacted negatively.

“You can imagine that all the things they would be doing, they would not be able to do it.  Those who would go to work and then still come back, and then go to fetch firewood, and then waste the time they would have devoted to doing other businesses that would uplift their families. So, it is important, as the panelists take their position to discuss, to suggest ways forward for this transition to clean energy, for women to be better off.”
