Starting April 2026 it’s going to be free medical consultation, medicines purchased, and dignity preserved, for low income retirees who earn their benefits on the programme withdrawal platform.
This will be followed firmly to the letter; it sprout after the inauguration of the Board of Trustees of the Pension Industry Healthcare Initiative, also referred to as Pencare. The Director General, National Pension Commission, Ms Omolola Oloworaran, stating this at the Pension Revolution Summit in Lagos, described it as “a landmark industry wide intervention to provide free and accessible healthcare for low income retirees.”
Providing a background for the initiative and PenCom driving force, Omolola said, “Retirement should be a season of peace not a period defined by anxiety over medical bills.”
“I am happy to announce the pilot will be announced next year and we hope to enrol 30,000 retirees across the six geopolitical zones in the country,” she declared.
