The Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria CIIN, has established itself as a dominant professional and educational fort in the West Africa sub region with established collaboration in Central African country of Cameroun and Rwanda in East Africa.
With home achievement scoring high on several fronts including the milestone of distributing over 12,000 copies of CIIN insurance textbook for senior secondary schools to various geopolitical zones of the country either through the ministry of education or directly to schools; the Institute is also making forays into other regions in the continent with recognition following.
The President CIIN Sir Muftau Oyegunle and the Director-General Mrs. Abimbola Tiamiyu made comments in this regard at the institute’s post year 2021 AGM press conference at the secretariat in Lagos (28 July).
Oyegunle comments on the strides across various countries, “During the year under review, all the tertiary institutions offering insurance in Nigeria, Cameroun and Gambia that had been reaccredited by the Institute received donations of two sets of the CIIN course books to support and encourage the student members to take our examination.”
Mrs Tiamiyu building on this said the Institute is surrounded with collaboration concluded with several African countries. Specifically she said the CIIN has partnership with Gambia where it has examination centre in Banjul, and another in Cameroun. Besides, she also said, “We have a centre in Kigali, Rwanda and every diet we conduct exams there.
Not done yet, she said the Institute would soon sign an MoU with Sierra Leone and once that is done the 17 students waiting on the wings to seat for insurance professional examination would be able to do so.
Also breaking into new frontiers is the College of Insurance and Financial management CIFM, which Oyegunle comments, “continues to achieve giant strides in human capital development in insurance industry.”
Oyegunle said the CIFM has achieved parity on several global standards and this has endeared it to several countries in Africa top of which is Uganda, where it was appointed as the external examiner for the insurance Training College in Uganda. “Furthermore, it is currently planning the insurance training for staff of the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU),” he added.
