The annual media conference hosted by the Insurance Industry Consultative Council and ongoing at the College of Insurance and Financial Management, Asese, Ogun State is an auspicious moment for the President, Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, Sir Muftau Oyegunle, to bare his mind on shared responsibilities for insurance penetration.
Sir Oyegunle, (pictured second from right with Tope Adaramola far left (executive secretary NCRIB and Mrs Abimbola Tiamiyu DG CIIN and Davis Iyesere deputy director NIA), said the stats of insurance penetration in Nigeria is still at the starting numbers, the lift to encouraging stats he emphasised, should be a shared responsibility with the media.
He said it is not enough for the media to concentrate on what the insurance industry has not done or looking away from, but also the media should accept the welcome from the industry to jointly assist to raise the low performance of penetration to enviable columns.
He was quick to clear that this not asking the media to shut down stories on who is not paying claims and other news that exfoliate confidence in insurance market but to devote time and resources to become solution partners to improve insurance penetration.
