The President accent to a bill from the National Assembly is not signed at first sight. Just as the bill goes through the National Assembly processes leading to concurrence of both Houses, the bill expecting president accent goes through background checks to make sure it aligns with the interest and aspirations of the Executive within a time frame that may differ with peculiar gestation legislative period of every at the National Assembly.
The Chairman Nigerian Insurers Association NIA, Kunle Ahmed, suggested that Insurance Bill which was recently cleared for accent a couple of weeks back may likely follow the similar procedure of bills at the presidency before accent.
At a media chart early in the week, Ahmed said the study period at the Executive branch did not come as a surprise because all bills are scrutinised to make sure it aligns with the clear objectives of government and in compliant mood.
“Before President accents any bill after it has been passed by both Houses a lot of government agencies look at how it impacts operations and might suggest ways that the bill is implemented.” He added that the practice notwithstanding the industry does not entertain any shred of doubt on the President accent.
“The bill will receive accent as soon as possible. It wont go the way of the former bill; the former President was on his way out of office when the bill was passed. The current President is just two years in office,” he stated.
