There is unfolding plan by the Nigerian Insurers Association NIA, to keep the unlicenced dispensers of Third-party Motor Insurance certificates that devoid of any value and obligation in the insurance value chain.
The Chairman, Nigerian Insurers Association, Kunle Ahmed gave the hint at the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria CIIN hosted “Year 2026 Business Outlook” Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Paradise Event Centre, Yaba, Lagos. He cleared that this new disposition to clean up issuance of fake motor insurance certificates that plagues insurance brand reputation, is still at incubation stage.
This new approach Ahmed said is the resolve of the Association and inputs are streaming in to ultimately establish workable solution that keeps everyone in the loop and clear the insurance image stretch marks.
In the burgeoning resolve, he said the NIA would “be a lot more creative” in handling the issue that has placed its operative table close to regulator recognised insurers, and thereby exfoliating the earnings of genuine insurers and also a poor image for insurers when the risk bought happens without indemnification because its fake insurance papers.
He also said this approach is weighted above any because the operators in this space have a war chest and could come back at you if the Association is not creative in its engagement.
