The Insurance Industry Consultative Council (IICC) says the annual retreat will no longer rest on being refreshed intellectually by resource persons but will also serve as an event for insurance journalists to vote before the event an award winning journalist for the year.
Chairman of IICC, Sir. Muftau Oyegunle disclosed this at the recently held IICC 2021 Media retreat in Asese, Ogun State, stressing that the winner will earn the award on all terms stated. As a reflection of the annual event, a moment to deescalate and refresh, a monetary award will be given to the best dancer the night preceding the event.
Oyegunle while charging insurance reporters to aim to be the best, applauded the media for the immeasurable support, especially, the insurance correspondents, who have continued to demonstrate expertise in insurance knowledge dissemination.
He laced his address with exemplary contribution of today’s media to insurance development, “As the world continues to evolve, the expectation from you as a key blog in the turning wheels of economic growth equally changes. It is upon this notion that the theme for today, the Newsman in the Changing World, has been ably conceived.
“There is a need for knowledge and creativity to lead the way as well as the adoption of artificial intelligence in amplifying the contents that you create. “The event of the year will no doubt put some mental or psychological strain on us and there is a need for us to deescalate some of those situations before we enter another year,” he stated.
Responding, the National Association of Insurance and Pension Correspondents, Chuks Okonta said the award stands as a challenge for journalist to raise the bar of reports adding it will spur quality across the flat forms.
