The National Pension Commission PenCom is not unsettled by ongoing moves by The Nigeria Police to clinch legal armour from the National Assembly to operate its own contributory pension by exiting from the PenCom regulated contributory pension scheme.
The Director General of the Commission, Ms Omolola Oloworaran who did not shield her disapproval of the legislative move said PenCom would continue to engage with the National Assembly to make them understand who the CPS works.
The PenCom DG the Lawmakers might have been swayed by the protests by the Police at the National Assembly but that does not make the legislative action the antidote to the genuine points raised by the Police. Simply put, she said it was a bad law, they (National Assembly) thought they are doing the right thing. We will continue to engage.”
Sharing the sentiments of the Police at the Pension Revolution Summit in Lagos on being at par with the Military pension, she said the pension benefits of the Police is a reflection of their current pay and through engagements their pay would be enhanced to guarantee improved benefits.
Not swayed by the Police gains at the Legislative branch, optimistic PenCom DG looking ahead a year or more from now, she holds the view that the Police pension would be a lot better than it is today,
