Retirees and intending retirees have been made to understand that retirement is not a sentence to displacement but stepping away from traditional careers, adapting, growing, and finding new ways to thrive.
Ms Adeolu Adewumi-Zer, Founding & Managing Director Zer Consulting Africa Limited, presented this new lease of life on retirement in her keynote speech at the Inspenonline Retirement Summit Unveiling of Insurfeel Initiative at Ikeja, Lagos.
Drawing from from the summit focus, ‘unleashing resilience’ she said retirement presented ‘an opportunity to redefine yourself.’ Clearly suggesting a shift from tradition, she challenges those in this space, “Imagine crafting a fulfilling future that extends beyond your career, filled with activities and connections that bring you joy and purpose.”
Adeolu sounds positive and unmoved despite the caution some other would put across. She sprints on her sure foot on her lane away from not dare when you retire or intends to do so, “The good news is, with a little initiative, you can…Retirement isn’t the end of your journey; it’s a chance to rewrite your purpose! Think about the skills you’ve honed throughout your career – leadership, problem-solving, communication – these are valuable assets beyond the typical workplace.”
She remains positive on this and up ticks it with. “Let’s broaden our horizons and craft a game plan to use our skills for a personal mission.”
Reminding retirees and potential ones that retirement isn’t an end, but a magnificent new beginning, Adeolu says its “a chance to unleash your resilience and craft a fulfilling future that transcends the confines of your workplace.”
By no means down playing financial security at retirement which the summit addressed along with personal transformation, Adeolu comments, “Financial security is crucial, of course. But true fulfilment comes from a life rich in purpose, connection, and continuous growth.
“Embrace personal transformation as you plan for the future. Explore your passions, reconnect with loved ones, and consider ways to contribute your skills and knowledge to the world.”
