Insurance professionals have received a fortified charge to build an insurance industry that is financially strong, technologically advanced, professionally competent and ethically responsible.
The Commissioner for Insurance, National Insurance Commission, Olusegun Omosehin, threw this at insurance professionals gathered at the Professional Forum of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria at Abeokuta on Wednesday, September 10, 2026 for the theme, “The Economics of Risk: Sustaining a Resilient Insurance Industry.”
In the roll out of must do for the professionals, Omosehin added that the sector must be customer-centred, and resilient enough to withstand the complexities of an increasingly uncertain world.
The CFI reminded the attendees that the economics of risk teaches that uncertainty is an unavoidable feature of human existence. “However, it also teaches us that prosperous societies are not those that eliminate uncertainty, but those that manage it intelligently.”
He maintained insurance insurance remainevone of humanity’s greatest economic innovations because it transforms fear into confidence, uncertainty into opportunity, and risk into resilience.
Omosehin’ plea, “Let us position insurance, not merely as a mechanism for indemnification, but as a strategic catalyst for Nigeria’s economic transformation and sustainable development.”
