Trust is like the wheel that that sets other components of of human endeavour in constant motion. Its the connecting rod that couples together complete knock down CKD parts and without it, the automotive parts remain independent, nonresponsive, and inactive. Knowing how important it is to all of human endeavour, it is earnestly sought for as the beacon for others to follow.
Having captured the importance of this dimension, Horizontal Initiative Concept Limited in collaboration with APSE Initiative has created a non governmental initiative, LASGOBIG to reward trust in government which it recognised, “is deteriorating day by day” in government circles at all levels. It noted that the absence of trust has deflated citizens response to public policies and invariably making sustainable economic recovery farfetched.
The statement spins trust more. “Trust is the foundation upon which the legitimacy of public institutions is built and is crucial for maintaining social cohesion. Trust is important for the success of a wide-range of public policies that depends on behavioural responses from the public.”
The missing link however, is that: “Most public office holders don’t understand what it takes to be a great state administrator, fitting the reason most elected officers are not accountable because their performance are not evaluated.”
LASGOBIG says its flagging off the call to hold public officers to account and set the pace for others to follow. And by doing this it will motivate public officers on the block to do more. Consequently, the NGO will on the 25th of June, 2021 unfold the maiden asked to account for Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as he celebrates 56th birthday by evaluating his performance in the last two years.
According to the organisers, the theme for this maiden edition is “Public Trust As a Vital Tool Towards Achieving a Greater Lagos”. 15 areas have been selected as basis of evaluation and representatives of ministries of the selected areas will be invited to state before all what they have done so far. The 15 areas are: transportation, health, housing, sports, information technology, infrastructure, youth/social development, and women empowerment. Others are, agriculture, education, security, commerce & industry, tourism/arts & culture, wealth creation and environment.
The task of executing this first time engagement LASGOBIG stated, will rest on the 10 individuals with high level integrity with a capacity that cuts across different spheres. The event will be open to invited guests this is besides live-streaming for viewers joining from all over the world.
LASGOBIG statement said its on a mission to create a synergy between the government and the people while also creating a platform for the state governor to know the true reflection of his performance.
