The tradition of the National Insurance Commission NAICOM, advising the Nigerian Insurers Association NIA on operations and guidelines for the insurance companies is going to witness a change once the in-coming Mrs Ebelechukwu Nwachukwu, who is MD/CE at Rex Insurance Plc, steps into office as the Chairman of the Association.
Mrs Ebelechukwu said in no uncertain terms that the narrative would change, “we will be advising NAICOM based on our operational experiences going forward.” She said this departure from current rule flow of advice from the regulator would witness a different dimension of collaboration.
Addressing this at a recent media briefing she said, “As I step into this role, I do so guided by the founding objectives of our Association.” Pointedly, she asserts that the NIA exists to, “Advice and consult with government on legislation and policies affecting insurance. Following this is, “Assist members in complying with statutes, regulations, and, government directives.”
