“We have in the past pushed for status upgrade but without success. We pursued our charter status on two separate occasions but did not succeed.”
This was the candid summary of the unsuccessful efforts by the past terms of ILAN leadership to get the ILAN Charter bill through the National Assembly. The new President, Pastor Ikechukwu Chibueze Udobi, is undaunted by the discouraging feedbacks of previous attempts and wants to take another shot at a rewarding engagement with the National Assembly to get the deal sealed.
The reemergence of the Charter push came to the front burner in his Presidential Address at his investiture as the 14 President of the Institute of Loss Adjusters of Nigeria in Surulere, Lagos.
Aware that the route to get a handshake on the Charter arena would be tough sail that would require maximum engagement with all stakeholders, Udobi nonetheless said his administration would be relentless in focus. Exuding courage; he said, “We will not stop; rather, we will strategise and represent our bill to the National Assembly, hoping that this time around, we will succeed because it will serve the best interest of all stakeholders in the insurance value chain.”
He also has his mind set on the international space where there is a deluge of experience and expertise that the the Institute could benefit from and advance members quality service. His position, “Also, we will work on our international affiliation with our counterparts in other climes, especially the advanced economies, because of the experience and expertise that could be exchanged as a result of such relationships.”
“Furthermore, we shall continue to train and retrain ourselves in areas that will assist us in delivering quality service to our principals and insurance industry in general,” he promised.
