The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has awarded its maiden Award of Excellence to ThisDay Newspapers’ Correspondent, Mrs Ebere Nwoji, for exceptional strides in insurance market analysis and features in Nigeria.
While announcing the award before invited journalists from various blogs, print and electronic media during the Commission’s annual training programme for Journalists held in Lagos, Rasaaq Salami Deputy director and Head Corporate Communications & Market Development, said the selection was stealth programme to give an element of surprise to all and to encourage journalists to do more to unearth insurance beyond the face value.
Collaborating the stealth manner the Communications Department handled it the Commissioner for Insurance Mr. Sunday Thomas said he had no inkling the award was coming and right there, said the next award would be Commission’s event and he commended the recipient noting that the selection would have been tall order giving that insurance journalist contributions were to close to call.
Rasaaq ‘Salami, while announcing the maiden award winner, noted that the award was a mark of excellence in insurance sector analysis and feature writing where Ebere’ uncommon and extra effort in critically following and analysing developments in insurance sector were observed over time
Mrs Nwoji received a sybolic plaque with an inscription: “Federal Republic of Nigeria. National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) with the compliment of Commissioner for Insurance” and cash award.
She rolled out her journalism career in Champion Newspapers Limited in 1997. She had also worked at the defunct Financial Standard and Daily Newswatch. Mrs Nwoji is a graduate of Mass Communication and holds Masters in Business Administration (MBA) with specialty in Marketing.
