United States President Donald Trump, has renamed Artificial Intelligence at the United Nations General Assembly that started today in New York which is taken as his counter to caution streaming across the West for the big techs and the two leading AI nations US and China to put restrains that the world can latch on.
Trump pointedly to the gathering of nations at the UN Headquarters that America is not going to back down on its current AI lead for China to take its place but it would rather stay put as the lead AI nation.
He reminded the world body that every new invention comes with challenges and that the US through its history it has not avoided daunting challenges rather it has faced them and conquered.
He said the US would stay and build a formidable fort of what he now calls Super Intelligence with necessary controls to address concerns.
As a matter of urgency he said henceforth all US Departments would designate AI as SI and will not heed to emerging global call for checks to avoid AI in a couple of years. He reiterated that such call has been ongoing for years and cited climate change which all the calls to heed global regulations has not gone the way of the global call.
However the UN Secretary General, Guterres in his opening address and also his last as he retires by the end of the year, said “AI creates risks of decision making without transparency.”
He firmly urged the US and China to create rules “governing AI before it governs” and do well to “establish AI dialogue.” He insisted that AI “must be shaped by humanity with humanity and for all humanity.
Guterres reminded the world that nine years ago in his first general assembly address that he called the AI a game changer that would transform the world if deployed well and could could also create a challenge that could replace man for machines.
